The Winter Olympics are finally here, the culmination of four years of dedication for many athletes will be put on display for the World. With the event coming to Vancouver, many people are beginning to take a closer look at Canadian and West Coast cuisine and drinks. With all the dedication the athletes have put into their training, what dedication have you shown as a fan in preparing your drinks?

Do you have the dedication of an Olympian?

Hockey

The staple of the Winter Olympics and probably the most anticipated event for most Canadians. Fully expectant of at least a medal in this event, anything less would be, well, quite sobering for most of us. To make sure it never comes to that, a drink that is no-nonsense, but silky smooth like our Men’s National Team, an Alexander Keith’s Indian Pale Ale. If in the morning you feel a little rough from the cheering, add a little tomato juice to create the perfect hangover drink, a Red Eye.

1 Can of Alexander Keith’s IPA®
2 oz Tomato Juice

Curling

Granted I wasn’t a huge fan of curling initially, but the game’s appeal has certainly grown on me. Much more a thinking and finesse ‘sport’, players are undoubtedly left with some down time between ends. What better way to warm up from inactivity than a nice mug of Tim Horton’s hot chocolate and a splash of Bailey’s. Not only will this drink warm you up, but the slight buzz will turn the passive drunk into a strategizing curler general.

1 oz Bailey’s® Irish Cream

Fill with Tim Horton’s® Hot Chocolate

Bobsled

A sport popularized by the Jamaicans, and more recently a British female athlete, bobsledding has always oozed of speed, excitement and danger. What drink to better personify ending up somewhere different from where you started, then slamming back a few Jägerbombs.

Jagerbombs

1/2 can Red Bull® Energy Drink
2 oz Jagermeister®

Pour red bull into a medium sized glass. Drop in a shot glass of jagermeister and drink all once.

Figure Skating

Figure skating embodies feminine (or effeminate) elegance, grace, and classiness. The rules for judging at these Olympics have been changed to avoid vote exchanging, so perhaps this year we might see the resurgence of a Tonya Harding-style competitor.

With a bit of an edge, while still maintaining the façade of grace, the perfect pairing would be a dirty dog.

2 oz Gin
4 oz Grapefruit Juice
Salt for Rimming
Lemon or Lime Wedge for Garnish

If that fails, slam back a few shots of Bacardi 151 and you won’t even know you’re watching figure skating.

1 Bottle Bacardi® 151
1 Straw

haha great drinking ideas! I’m not too sure about the combo of tomato juice and beer, but I will try to trust your instincts!

Baileys and Tim Hortons is definitely a Canadian’s drink… although, I go with coffee and Baileys — especially on the morning after GOLD!
