A New Horizon for Fashion PR

TweetIn the fashion industry, as a budding designer, it’s hard enough to come up with unique designs. But add in the pressure of getting your name out there and creating a press kit? Forget it.
That requires not only time, but more importantly, money. And unless you’re a trust fund baby, or a celebrity, it’s not likely that you have much cash to spare, especially in these economic times.
Luckily, The Vanguard PR has created a program for up-and-coming designers, addressing this very issue.
The Bright Eyes Designer Outreach Program (BEDOP) was designed to help these fashion up-and-comers by teaching them basic public relations skills that will help them take their designs and labels to the next level. Applicants are hand-picked (five each season) by Vanguard staff in order to ensure everyone shares the same philosophy, style, and vision as the firm.
The students are then mentored through a one month program that includes: how to draft a press release to selecting the perfect brand name. BEDOP also educates students on how to pick what industry professionals to pitch their line to.
Sound intense and expensive? Well, only half of that is true. The Vanguard believes in creating excitement among everyone involved in the fashion indutry, industry professionals, media, and buyers. They constantly strive to create new directions, recreating the industry standard.
However, the BEDOP is being offered to up-and-coming designers at a charitable rate. The Vanguard is a strong believer in “paying it forward” and believe that this program is their way of illustrating their passion for the industry and desire to make a difference in the fashion world.
When asked about BEDOP, the Vanguard founder, Kristin Janishefski, said, “We created this division to “pay it forward” to all those out there that are just as passionate about fashion and design as we are, but don’t have the huge budgets to fork out to an agency that just wants to take their money.
We work with our chosen few on a rate for the program that is well under the norm. We want to mentor these designers and really teach them how the PR world works. I really want to take care of them because the best part about my job is seeing the sparkle in their eyes when we have helped them achieve the impossible.
Young designers exhibit an appreciation to our firm who believed in them when they thought their line was nothing more than a dream.”
